Nena & Co. is thrilled to be working with the bead artisans of Kenya to create our exclusive line of bag straps and wristlets. The intricate beadwork for our Kenya Collection is handmade by women from several communities across Kenya. This collection features recycled brass end clasps and our Womanhood icon hardware, all made by hand!
ABOUT THE ARTISANS
Similar to our Guatemalan artisans, many of our bead workers in Kenya are mothers and grandmothers, and have additional duties such as household chores and caring for livestock. The income they receive from beading helps them live comfortable lives, and gives them the opportunity to send their children to school. These women value education, and are passionate about conserving the wildlife around them. They often bead together, developing lasting friendships and receiving the social interaction so many of us long for. These women are thankful for the opportunity they have to use their skills to create a better life for their family and contribute to their community.
